Performance Analysis of 8×10 Gbps and 8×20 Gbps Dispersion Compensated WDM system for Long Distance Communication System with NRZ modulation

ABSTRACT

In this paper we have discussed the performance analysis of combinational dispersion compensation scheme using Dispersion Compensation Fiber (DCF) and Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) for 8 Channel WDM systems at data rate of 10 and 20 Gbps have carried out in this paper. In high data rate optical communication system like DWDM system combinational dispersion compensation scheme is essential for smooth amplification of the signal over wide range of wavelengths. A configuration consisting of 8 channel WDM system with 0.8nm channel spacing in C-Band 1552.52- 1546.91 nm wavelength with NRZ pulses and repeater distance per 100km for the data rates of 10Gbps and 20 Gbps are modelled, simulated and analysed at 100-1000 km transmission distance using combinational – dispersion compensation scheme. The performance characteristics in terms of eye diagrams, Q-factors, gains, output power, eye height, threshold of received signals are obtained and analysed for different system configurations. A comparison between mentioned schemes and earlier schemes are made in this paper.
