Organisation

Location
The school will be locally organized by the Centro de Física Aplicada y Tecnología Avanzada (CFATA), which is one of the 9 research centers of the the Juriquilla Campus of UNAM.
Lectures and talks will take place in the Laboratorio Nacional de Visualización Científica Avanzada (LAVIS), in a comfortable auditorium equipped with a 6×4 array of 55-inche high-resolution screens.
At CFATA coffee-breaks and lunches will be served and poster sessions will also take place.
Juriquilla is a nice residential and academic suburb of Querétaro city, only 15 kms from down town. Queretaro city center is where the Mexican independence movement began. It is a beautiful colonial city, very lively, safe and pleasant to walk.
Participants will be hosted in hotels located in the city center. Back and forth daily transportation to Juriquilla will be arranged in buses provided by the school.
International Travel Fellowships
A limited number of international travel fellowships are available to help students attend the school, through generous support from the OSA. These shall be awarded to candidates on a competitive basis, with priority given to undergraduate and masters students from developing countries.
Profile of Participants
The school will be open to a limited number of participants, selected on the basis of academic merit.
We expect participants with a strong interest and commitment to start their research careers in a biophotonics-related field. We encourage application from bachelor and masters students wishing to start a master or PhD degree but PhD students and young postdocs are also welcome.
During the school, the students will have the opportunity to present their work to their peers and the experts and may be interviewed for a possible MSc or PhD positions. In addition, and depending on the candidate interests, other types of exchanges and visits may be possible.
ICFO Student Research Fellowships
ICFO may award (on a competitive basis) up to two Student Research Fellowships to advanced undergraduate or masters students accepted into the school.
These fellowships are awarded to outstanding bachelor or master students to undertake a 3-6 month research project, such as a bachelor or masters thesis, at ICFO in one of its research groups.
To be eligible for a fellowship candidates must be currently enrolled/registered to an undergraduate or master’s program, and have a high working knowledge of English.
Selection of Fellows is based on merit and potential, measured in terms of academic records and personal achievements. Proactive attitudes, participation in community activities, and capacity for team-work and leadership are also taken into account
All persons who apply to the school will automatically be considered for these fellowships.

School Fees
Participants will be charged a small fee to help cover the costs of accommodation and catering, as follows:
- Undergraduates: NO FEE
- MSc students: $3,000 Mexican pesos
- PhD students: $5,000 Mexican pesos
- Researchers: $3,000 Mexican pesos per day of attendance
Local students (i.e. not needing accommodation) will be charged a registration-only fee of:
- Undergraduates: NO FEE
- MSc students: $800 Mexican pesos
- PhD students: $1,000 Mexican pesos
- Researchers: $3,000 Mexican pesos
Eligibility
ICFO-UNAM Schools on the Frontiers of Light welcome applications from individuals worldwide with a variety of backgrounds, including optics, physics, mathematics, electronics, engineering, chemistry and biology. Candidates must have an excellent academic record, and a strong commitment for scientific research. Priority will be given to masters-level and advanced undergraduate students, although PhD students and young researchers are welcome to apply. Persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply. There are no restrictions of citizenship or gender.
ICFO does not tolerate any type of conduct or behavior considered harassment or bullying and has a clear defined policy against harassment.

- title & abstract for a proposed contributed talk or poster

- If available, scanned copy of standardized test results (GRE, TOEFL, etc.).
